weekend update

Here's a photo dump of our weekend!

Chores tackled without pics:

-boat pressure washed

-grass watered 

-outdoor cushion washed

-kitchen caulk finally done (you don't need to see pictures of my caulk)

Thursday arrival sunset:

The lake was a bit choppy/windy which made for a dicey crossing/landing, but the captain got us there like a champ.

New ceiling fan in the boy's room. We need another fan for the bunky, so we upgraded his fan and moved the older one to the bunky. Not shown: old fan in bunky because again we're missing a longish screw to install it. Arg.

lovely day at the lake. This is turning out to be the craziest year yet for weeds. The passage from our "marina" right by the tips of Cow and Long Island's is dense with weeds. I've never seen them so thick in the 15 years we've been on the lake! Will be an interesting summer.

A birthday for this Dingus

As it was just the two of us, no cake, but Moose Tracks icecream is a decent substitute.

Some lilacs transplanted after the Mad Builder ripped out all of my mature plants to build that abomination of a lower deck. Arse.

A deer that we watching swimming across the lake. I'm sorry, what?!! She must've been swimming for ages. Apparently they love to eat poison ivy so she'll dine well if she can avoid her natural predators on the island: angry, chirping chipmunks.

i have video of her swimming, but can't upload it here. Captain on the porch:  "What am I looking at?! Is that A DEER?!?"

 

We heard scrabbling on the porch roof and discovered what looks like a baby grackle. I think there was a nest higher up at the peak of the roof, and it slid down the slippy metal roof panel. So it lives there now.

Weekend photo dump for you:

We brought the wee Bibby to the cottage for this long weekend. He was FREAKED OUT for the drive and the first day and a half, but then he gave himself a shake and realized there are many windows to perch in and an abundance of chipmunks to stalk. 

Then there was this absolute unit of a sunset. Wow.

But the next day obviously had something to prove and tossed this at us

Some pontoon shenanigans with kids and friends (yes, the carpet is a mess, we're working on it! We were without a hose for almost 3 years!)

Here's our cottage from afar (under the white arrow)

We woke to just a bit of fog on Sunday (the world vanished)

but then this happened 

if you zoom in close to shore you can probably see little fish! No? How bout this one...

the pontoon got washed a bit. 

I built the cabinets for the bunky but we're missing a chunk of rail to hang them, so back to Ikea we go. 

The grass was finally cut (it was reaching baling height) I spread some grass seed on the bald spots in the yard and mother nature took care of watering it in. We got to watch some fireworks across the lake. The girls ventured out in the pedal boat..all in all it was a 10/10 weekend. Pity I had to traumatize my fur baby at the start of it.

new sofa!!

We finally splurged and got the long-awaited sectional for the cottage. I am in lurv!

I think I need to reposition the lake sign, tho. Bugger.

We rented a U-Haul trailer and brought a LOT of big stuff up to the cottage. The sofa, patio table and chairs, outdoor sitting area table and chairs, wheelbarrow, workbench table, and glass panels for the porch railing. It took three trips across the lake to transport it all; the boys are certifiably pooped. I supervised.

Tomorrow they retrieve the runabout from winter storage.

When the boy-who-lifts is available, we have to take advantage.

Addendum

Sundry heavy things relocated from the basement (sailboat, pedal boat, kayaks and canoes).

Happy mother's day to all who have /are one that isn't an abject asshole! Hugs to those without or with the bad kind.

Unrelated but worth preserving: pics of the aurora borealis from my bathroom window at home, Friday May 10: (I still dont.know why the rotation is wonky. I can't fix it. At least not from my phone. Le shrug.)

Boat's in, dock is down, cottage is opened up. Except for the water. That will happen next time. Cottage season 2024 is officially underway! Wahoo!
