The hall

I haven't posted any redecorating photos lately. Sorry 'bout that. My excuse is that these posts take a bit longer to write and I've mostly been offline this last week and a half.

The lastest painting job has been in the main hall of the cottage. The hall leads from the living-room/kitchen area to the back of the cottage where the bunk room and bathroom are, passing the "master" bedroom and guest bedroom along the way.

Here's what it used to look like:

And the same vantage point looking right towards the pantry:

First we chucked the carpet and ripped out the linoleum. The carpet was hiding a massive hump in the middle of the hallway floor. I had Quasimodo, the hallway.*sigh* Another speedbump. Ahahaha.  Get it? Speedbump?

Here's  the captain removing the masking tape (!?!) that was sealing the joint between two floor boards. First cardboard and duct tape. Now masking tape.  I half expect to discover the bathroom walls are held together with toothpicks and scotch tape.

Once the precious tape was removed, Dad and the Captain pounded up the subfloor to get at the woopsy floor joist so they could shim it (so the floor didn't have such a pronounced wow in it). Quasimodo hasn't completely lost his hump, but now he is only suffering a slight curvature of the spine.

With the hump repaired (mostly) and some very sticky tuck tape put down to keep the outside, outside.... we moved on to priming to cover the narsty panelling, like so:

and like so:

Then a coat of paint went on the walls, and we tacked in a few bits of moulding before we ran out of boards. I've cleverly omitted the top of the door frame, because the trim was missing up there! You can also see the flooring went in. I took no photos of that operation because you've seen a lot of floor, it was about midnight by the time we finished, and I was clearly stunned.

I put a coat of primer on the world's tattiest door (with the world's lowest doorknob) hoping it would be passable, but it's not. It's carp.

Fast forward a few days (we had to leave briefly for a dance competition) and see the hallway full of trim, with a spanky-new painted door (only $29!). I also spray painted the knob mat black. It was silver and copper; possibly on purpose, too. It looks soooo much better.
