Gene and his pals

Check out Gene, Paul, cat-faced guy and What's-his-name.

Don't they look smashing?

I finally found some time to spray paint the rockers. Left to right are Key Lime, Berry Pink, Brilliant Blue, and Sun Yellow.

Some things I learned whilst painting the rockers:
  1. No amount of paint protection is enough. I had essentially created a plastic drop-cloth cocoon to paint in but the paint fog still managed to escape.
  2. Spray painting four rockers in one afternoon gives you spasms in your hands. I can't even hold my toothbrush right now.
  3. Spray paint sticks to skin much worse than latex paint. (My nickname is now "Rainbow Bright")
  4. Paint fog mysteriously morphs into paint dust after it travels about six feet. It's easy to clean up, but it's EVERYWHERE. (please don't ask about the inside of my nose. It's just better that way.)
  5. The "double coverage" spray cans ($1 more than the others) cover about the same as the regular cans.
  6. One can of spray paint is just barely enough to thoroughly paint a rocking chair.

The rocker survey - results

Here are the results from the rocker survey.

As you can see by the overwhelming results (all ten of them, and I know some people voted twice) Gene, Paul, Cat-faced guy and whats-his-name will be painted all different colours. Namely:
Berry Pink
Brilliant Blue
Marigold
Key Lime

You have no-one to blame but yourself.
p.s. the good folks at Rust-oleum do not endorse this blog in any way, shape or form. I just plan to buy their spray paint at the Despot.

Rocker survey

The rockers have come home to roost!
I'm thinking of calling them Gene, Paul, Cat-faced guy, and whats-his-name.

We're now the proud owners of four similar-yet-completely-different rocking chairs. [insert gleeful teehee!]

Now I'm faced with the tricky questions: What colour do I paint them?

This is where you come in. Participate in the following survey to help me decide what to do with the rockers

[drat - there was supposed to be a nifty survey widget here, but it's not working. Blogger must hate javascript. You'll just have to use the link above.]

Survey closes on Saturday at midnight. I expect you to contribute. Yes, you, Internet lurker!

Come to me, my pretties...

Here are the rockers currently dwelling in my garage:
The one on the left is the $10 kijiji find. (bargoooooon!). The one on the right was $20 at a garage sale. It's still the prettiest. It came with a penalty gift*:
The knots will actually look cute in the kids' room, I think.

I've wangled another kijiji deal for two more chairs :
They're $40 for the pair. It's a bit more than I wanted to spend (was hoping $30 for the pair), but $20 for a rocker is not bad at all. Fortunately the "spiffy" rose carpet does not come with them.

Can someone explain to me why rockers have spray-painted gold crippity crap at the top?

Now I need to figure out what colour I'm going to paint 'em. I might have to borrow a paint sprayer for this job. Painting spindles makes me loco.

* A penalty gift is anything you're given that you don't really want: like the boxes of your own junk your mum gives you when you visit her after you've moved out.

Off my rocker

I've always want to have a bunch of painted rockers sitting on the cottage porch.
Wait. No. That's not what I meant.

I mean something more like this.
I acquired a fine rocking chair at a garage sale this weekend. It got my ThinkinSchemer™ into overdrive and I started to troll Kijiji for some inexpensive chairs to complete the collection. I pick this one up tomorrow evening for a paltry $10.

Kijiji, where have you been all my life!? It's like a garage sale without having to get up early on a Saturday morning (for me, getting up early on a Saturday is right up there with waterboarding). This rocker's quite similar to the one parked in my garage right now. Two more like this and the rocking chair fleet is complete. Then I'll have another date with a paint brush.
