Gooble Gooble

Gooble Gooble!

I hope you are all recovering from your turkey binge this weekend and are now up to your necks in leftovers. It's time for some hot turkey sandwiches, turkey soup, turkey quesadillas, and turkey pancakes.

No. Not really. Though we did discuss fried chicken and waffles with gravy this weekend. Never a dull moment at the lodge.

Here are some photos of our first annual Thanksgiving at the Lodge.

This is the centrepiece of our Thanksgiving table. I found the ceramic pitcher in the pantry (really? Hmm!) and the princess and I trolled the fields in the middle of the island looking for brightly coloured leaves and flowers.

We were careful not to pick any of the bright red ones growing close to the ground (poison ivy turns bright red in the fall).

The red-head and his buddy Nathan picked up some nice oak leaves and acorns to scatter around the table.

And here's how the whole thing looked before dinner.
We don't normally keep crystal glasses at the lodge. Sewing Mum brought those with her to make the table fancier. The tablecloths (caramel coloured with a lace tablecloth overlay) also were one-time additions from home. Everything else is from the lodge.

Here's the rabble sitting down to feast. Definitely NOT the best photo of this crowd, and not the best photo period, but I couldn't get the camera any further back without climbing into the kitchen cupboards. As it was I was leaning backwards over the counter with the camera held high above my head. Good ab workout, that.

Dinner was a delicious roast turkey, mashed potatoes with caraway seeds, turnip casserole (I hate turnip and I gobbled this up - I think it's because it has cheese in it), yams with marshmallows on top - seen in the foreground, stuffing, homemade dinner rolls, and a lovely white wine. And of course, pumpkin pie and whipped cream. Nom.

Please note the very welcome additions of Aunty P and Uncle B (Mum's sister and brother-in-law). We invited them up for a nice Thanksgiving stay at the lodge, and promptly put them to work.

We are the worst hosts, EVER. Ever. Auntie P was a dish-washing machine, and Uncle B got clocked in the head not once, but twice. (more on that later). I guess that's one way to control the guest population at the lodge: treat them all like crap and they won't want to come back! We don't have a guest problem though. At least, not yet.All of our guests this year have been troopers.

We are so grateful for all of their help - whether cooking, cleaning, washing sorting, kid herding, cottage closing, or hauling stuff around. It was all helpful and it was all very much appreciated.

So on this Thanksgiving, I extend my thanks to each and every one of you who have made the trip to the lodge (either physically or virtually) and showed us some kindness with your donations, support, and hard work.

THANK YOU!

And now it's time for the post-turkey coma.
